Welcome to the Nest! We are delighted to welcome you and your family to Coppin State University. This weekend is designed to help you transition smoothly into your new home and get acquainted with our vibrant campus life. We have an exciting lineup of activities to help you settle in and start your journey at Coppin State on the right foot. We look forward to seeing you!

Weekend Schedule Overview

  • All Day: Food trucks, festive atmosphere, and more.
  • AM: Move-In for Students NOT attending the last New Student Orientation.
  • AM: New Student Orientation for those who have not attended.
  • Afternoon: Move-In for New Student Orientation Attendees.
  • Evening: Jazz Concert.
  • Evening: Rec Center open activities.

 

  • 9 AM: Res Hall meeting in JWJ Auditorium.
  • AM - Early Afternoon: EAC Content orientation part 2 – JWJ Auditorium.
  • Lunch: President/FJC Scholars with Parents.
  • After Lunch: Parents and Guests depart.
  • Evening: Theatre production.

  • All Day: King's Dominion.
  • All Day: Field day in PEC.
  • All Day: Explore Baltimore College Town.

  • All Day: Service project.
  • All Day: Baltimore connection activities.
  • All Day: Move-in for continuing students.

Welcome to the Nest: Parent Information

We understand that sending your child off to college is a significant milestone for both you and your student. To help you navigate this transition, we have provided some essential information and resources specifically for parents.

New Student Move-in: Thursday, August 22, 2024 - 9am to 5pm

Students who are new to living on campus will move in at the times below. Students who attended New Student Orientation on August 22nd will move in between 2pm and 5pm on August 22nd.

Move-In Day Tips:

  • Arrival Time: Make sure to arrive during your designated move-in time to ensure a smooth process. Volunteers will be available to assist with unloading and moving items into the residence halls.
  • Packing Checklist: Ensure your student has all the essentials for their new home. A packing checklist can be found [here].
  • Parking: Parking is available in designated areas. Please follow the signs and instructions from our staff to avoid any confusion.

Parent Orientation:

  • August 23:
    • 9 AM: Residential Hall meeting in JWJ Auditorium – Meet the Residence Life staff, learn about living on campus, and get answers to your questions.
    • Lunch: President/FJC Scholars Luncheon with Parents – Join us for a special lunch to meet other parents and university staff.
    • Afternoon: After lunch, parents and guests are encouraged to explore the campus or local area while students attend orientation sessions.

Special Invitations for Parents and Families:

  • Summer Concert: Join us on the evening of August 22 for a delightful jazz concert.
  • Orientation Sessions: Parents are welcome to attend orientation sessions on August 23 to gain valuable insights and information about the university.
  • Lunch on August 23: A communal lunch will be provided for all attendees, with a separate lunch available for Scholars and their families.
  • Theatre Production: Enjoy an evening of entertainment with a theatre production on August 23.

Staying Connected:

  • Parent Portal: Access important information and stay connected with your student’s academic progress and campus activities through our Parent Portal. Sign up [here].
  • Communication: Encourage your student to maintain regular communication with you. Setting up a schedule for phone calls or video chats can help you stay connected.

Coppin State University welcomes alumni, family, and friends to it's Summer Concert Series. Bring your lawn chairs, food, beverages, family, and friends! Vendors on site!

Save the dates: June 27, July 25, and August 22 from 6:00 to 9:00 PM.
New location: South Quad (between STC and HHSB)
