Elementary and Middle School Groups
Due to high demand, the Office of Admissions has shifted our focus to high school and community college tours. We no longer offer tours for elementary and middle school groups and all slots for our elementary/middle school Education Day events have been filled for the academic year.

🔹 Tour Highlights
Your visit will last about 1.5 to 2 hours, depending on your group size, and will cover all the must-see spots! Our campus tour experience is a walking tour experience and will include a thorough view of our campus facilities.

🔹 Tour Guidelines
To make sure everyone has the best experience, here are a few things to keep in mind:

  • Groups need 1 chaperone per 10 students, with a max of 75 students per tour.
  • Tours happen rain or shine, and will only be postponed for severe weather or extreme heat.
  • To ensure an authentic academic environment, tours won’t include sitting in on classes, but we promise there’s plenty else to see and enjoy!

🔹 Special Requests
While we’d love to show off our school spirit with things like step shows, mascot meet-and-greets, and meetings with faculty or staff, these aren’t guaranteed during tours. But don’t worry, the tour itself will be full of amazing highlights!

🔹 Booking Your Tour
All tours must be booked in advance. You’ll receive a confirmation email with all the info you need once your tour is set! Unfortunately, we can’t accommodate same-day requests or self-guided tours.
When you’re ready to book, make sure your group is available—unavailable dates will be grayed out.

🔹 Dining Options
Want to grab a bite during your visit? Dining options are available! Once your tour is confirmed, you'll receive information to coordinate meals directly with our catering services. Just a heads up—meals aren’t included in the tour time, so be sure to coordinate with our catering team for availability.

Residence Life and Housing

Residence Life and Housing

A Place to Call Home

Everyone's college experience is different. Part of what makes Coppin so special is that there is space for everyone—and everyone's colleges experience—to belong. For many students, part of the college experience is living on campus in our residence halls. Built with students in mind, our halls are hubs of activity, programs and support designed to broaden your perspective, set you up for academic and personal success, and provide the space for experiences that enrich your life.

Living on campus at Coppin is a lifestyle. Our residential community helps residents develop and practice valuable skills and attitudes that will help you thrive long after your college journey. This experience regularly presents opportunities you can use to make your Coppin college experience more memorable, more enjoyable, and more successful.

Staff Always Ready to Help

Two offices coordinate on-campus living at Coppin:

  • Office of Housing
  • Office of Residence Life

Office of Housing

We are your resource to learn about on-campus housing and facilities, cost, and move-in weekend. Our staff can also handle work orders, and help guide new and returning students through the housing application process.

Visit the Office of Housing

Office of Residence Life

Once you move in to our campus dorms, we become your main resource for dorm life, activities, and programming. Our staff makes sure you have access to residential college experiences you'll remember fondly—even after graduation.

Living the Dream

You don't have to come to campus to get a first look at our residential facilities—check out the video and see what it means to live the dream at Coppin.

Why Live on Campus?

Living on campus gives our students more than a place to sleep and study. It's a place where our students feel welcome, stay engaged, and leave changed. Some of your favorite college moments will be because of the relationships and friendships you created while staying on campus.

We encourage you to stay with us. We'll focus on the details of modern and comfortable living, while you study, learn, and build lasting relationships, and have fun. You can feel confident you'll feel safe and welcome, while enjoying a space to make your own, fresh food, paid utilities, and additional amenities.

Still not convinced? Check out our top 10 benefits of staying on campus!

You are just a quick walk away from your classes, the library, your friends' rooms, the dining hall and everything else on campus. Academic and administration buildings, the minimart, athletic events, and so much more are just a short walk from your residence hall.

Research suggests students who live on campus tend to stay more active and involved in campus activities. On campus students also more likely to earn higher grades and are less likely to drop out of school than students who live off-campus.

  • Basic cable connectivity at no additional cost
  • High Speed Internet Service (WiFi) at no additional cost
  • 24 hour laundry access, with low-cost $1 to wash and $1 to dry

Your college experience is what you make it. And we know students who live in our residence halls are more likely to get active and involved in campus organizations and activities. Coppin offers academic, social, athletic, and recreational programs—all within a short walk from your on-campus home.

The residence halls offer students a chance to develop leadership potential. Hall government, organizations and residence hall-related employment involve students in decision-making and planning activities for the halls.

Residence halls are within a short distance from computer labs, laundry room, vending room, fitness center, mailboxes, micro-fridges, snack bar, and cafeteria.

We've designed residence hall living to meet your needs. Currently, all charges include utilities paid and all associated services. On-campus living is set up to make your life as a student extremely convenient and affordable.

One of the best things about Coppin State University is our sense of tradition. Living in a residence hall has become a part of that tradition. Students who do not live on campus at least 1 year miss out on a very valuable and fun part on the college experience.

Living on campus is a great way to meet new and interesting people. Many students form lifelong friendships with the people they meet in the residence halls. Research even suggets residential students feel more satisfied with their collegiate experience than their off-campus peers.

The residence halls are staffed with Resident Assistants (RA's) and Resident Hall Directors (RD's) who are live-in personnel available to help residents become acquainted with campus activities and resources. These staff members will counsel and refer students, ensure that maintenance issues are addressed, and help develop a sense of community in the residence halls.

Housing Work Orders

Work orders can be submitted using the EagleLINKS Self Service portal. Log into EagleLINKS and go to the Self Service menu and select Residence Life for the option to submit a work order. If you have any questions, please contact the Housing office.

How Residency Decides Tuition

How Residency Decides Your Tuition

Know How Residency Affects Your Tuition

Residency is a policy established by the University System of Maryland (USM) to make sure there is a fair and equitable process to determine a student’s classification and tuition rates across all Maryland state schools. Coppin State University uses residency information to determine if a student is considered a Maryland resident and is therefore eligible for in-state tuition status. The USM site also has available Frequently Asked Questions information regarding residency to assist you as you complete the residency form.

In-State Residency Eligibility

To qualify for in-state status, a student must submit the Residency Form within the Application for Admission and demonstrate all of the following requirements for the 12-month period immediately before the semester or term a student is seeking in-state tuition. The USM Residency Policy states a student must:

  • Have continuously kept their primary residence in Maryland
  • Have kept all personal property in Maryland, including but not limited to furniture, personal belongings, and pets
  • Have paid Maryland income tax on all taxable income and filed a Maryland Resident Tax Return
  • Have registered all owned or leased vehicles in Maryland for at least 12 consecutive months. Check the official Residency Policy for other accepted conditions for motor vehicles
  • Have kept a valid Maryland driver’s license for at least 12 consecutive months. Check the official Residency Policy for other conditions that satisfy this requirement
  • Be currently registered to vote in Maryland
  • Receive no public assistance from any state, city, county, or municipality outside the State of Maryland
  • Have a legal federal and state right to live in Maryland, permanently and without interruption

Initial Residency Determination

The initial Residency determination is made in accordance with the residency policy. All students must complete the Residency Form as a part of the Application for Admissions. The deadline to submit the Residency Application is the first day of classes for the semester you choose to enroll.

Out-of-State Residency Classification

You must be a resident of Maryland and meet all the USM criteria to qualify for in-state tuition. You qualify for out-of-state tuition if you are:

  • Attending school or living outside Maryland when you apply or are admitted to Coppin (or another USM school)
  • Financially dependent on a person who is not a Maryland resident

How to Change Residency Status

You may petition to change your residency status by submitting a completed Residency Petition Form and any supporting documentation to the Office of Records and Registration. We cannot accept faxed or emailed Residency Petition forms. The form includes information on where to send a hard copy when complete.

  • Attending school or living outside Maryland when you apply or are admitted to Coppin (or another USM school)
  • Financially dependent on a person who is not a Maryland resident

DACA & Maryland Dream Act

DACA: Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals

The Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) programs protects youth who came to the United States when they were children from deportation. DACA students can temporarily qualify for in-state tuition if they submit the approval notification of their Deferred Action status (I-797, notice of action) AND the Maryland Residency Form to the Office of Admissions by the first day of classes of their intended entry term. Deferred Action status must be held for 12 consecutive months prior to the start of the term to be eligible for in-state tuition rates. For more information, please email admissions@coppin.edu.

The Maryland Dream Act: University System of Maryland Nonresident Tuition Exemption for Eligible Maryland High School Graduates

The Dream Act qualifies any student, other than a non-immigrant alien, within the meaning of 8 U.S.C.- 1101(A)(15), who meets all of the requirements listed on the form, for in-state tuition at all public colleges and universities in Maryland. To be eligible, the student must submit the USM Tuition Exemption Request form and provide the required supporting documentation. The required supporting documents are listed on the form.

NOTE: Applicants who hold Deferred Action for Childhood Arrival (DACA) status should not complete the University System of Maryland Tuition Exemption Request form.
