Sweet Bitter Love

A New Play by Lottie Porch
Directed by Willie O. Jordan
Sweet Bitter Love is a love story encased in a much larger blueprint of life for a woman who knows both intensely deep suffering and, even deeper love. The main character, Special Purnell is the everyday girl/child/lady who personifies black women throughout history – those who tenaciously move forward through challenges, heartbreaks, triumphs, and defeat. In her we see glimpse of greats like Zora Neale Hurston, Fannie Lou Hammer, Daisy Bates, and Ella Baker. Special’s story explores the strong though sometimes damaged strength in womankind; their special capacity to give life and sustain it, no matter how sweet or bitter it becomes.
A special free-to-the-public workshop production of a new play by Lottie E. Porch, Sweet Bitter Love.
Immediately following the performance, there will be a short talk-back panel with the author.
