Non-Exempt Job Descriptions
The information below presents job descriptions for the University System of Maryland (USM) which can be used for all Coppin State University non-exempt positions. Non-exempt employees are those in technical/paraprofessional, clerical/secretarial, skilled craft, and service/maintenance job classes. To comply with the Fair Labor Standards Act, University employees, including temporary and student employees, who hold non-exempt positions must be granted overtime pay at a rate of not less than one and one-half times their regular hourly rate of pay for each hour of overtime worked in excess of 40 hours in a workweek.

Compensation Guidelines
The Chancellor of the University Systems of Maryland (USM) distributes annual compensation guidelines to all USM schools regarding compensation administration for the fiscal year. These guidelines will include information about updated salary structures, permissible compensation actions, cost of living and merit increases (if applicable), retention , equity and other necessary increases, and reporting requirements. These guidelines are the foundation of the University’s pay practices and are utilized as a guide in all compensation decisions.
