Student Profiles
You can excel no matter the obstacles thrown at you outside of school
By: Brandi Randolph
Jahi Chatman is a graduating senior at Coppin State University from West Baltimore. He is majoring in Interdisciplinary Studies with a concentration in art and military science. He said he chose this major “to be flexible in many fields and get the tools and strategies to have my own company in retail or IT consulting.” He is currently “moving towards wanting to work in corporate America in IT or business consulting.”
Jahi’s proudest accomplishment at Coppin State has been being Mr. Coppin for the 2021-2022 school year. This was his proudest accomplishment because he was “able to uplift the school and help with school pride” and “travel and make people aware that Coppin exists.”
When first choosing Coppin, Jahi said he was not a “traditional” freshman. He took me through his journey to Coppin. He started by joining the military and took a year’s hiatus from school. When he was ready to return to school, he revealed that “Coppin wanted me” and that it was affordable. He felt like Coppin was a family-oriented school.
Jahi wants to be remembered as “The person to show others that they can be who you are no matter where they come from. You can excel no matter the obstacles thrown at you outside school.”
Jahi is a full-time student with a 3.0 GPA who works and participates in an internship full-time.
