Coppin State University Development Foundation

As an independent philanthropic fundraising organization, the Coppin State University Development Foundation (CSUDF) plays a crucial role in fostering, facilitating, and advancing the overall well-being, progress, and growth of Coppin State University.

Coppin State University, a Historically Black Institution in a dynamic urban setting, serves a multi-generational student population and provides education opportunities while promoting lifelong learning. The university fosters leadership, social responsibility, civic and community engagement, cultural diversity and inclusion, and economic development.

About the CSUDF

The Coppin State University Development Foundation (CSUDF) is a separate 501 (c)(3) non-profit organization governed by a Board of Directors and exists to support the mission of Coppin State University by encouraging, facilitating, and promoting the growth, progress, and general welfare of the university. CSUDF serves as the repository for all charitable gifts designated for the benefit of the university and its programs.

The purpose of CSUDF is to promote the general welfare and educational mission of Coppin State University. CSUDF has established as its primary mandate the acquisition of scholarship gift income to respond to the needs of worthy students seeking a college degree at Coppin.

The Executive Director of the CSUDF is charged with the responsibility of overseeing the submission of any proposal that carries the CSUDF name. Faculty and Staff wishing to submit a proposal for grant funding utilizing the non-profit status of the Coppin State University Development Foundation are required to adhere to the following process.

  • Get written approval from your Vice President, Dean or Department head 8 weeks before the proposed objective. This is critical to make sure efforts are coordinated with respect to everyone’s time. (Student initiatives should be approved through the Office of Campus Life.)
  • After approval is received, contact the proper individuals in the Office of Institutional Advancement to begin the project management effort. Additional team-members will be brought in based on the needs of your objective.
  • Solicitations and marketing materials must be viewed and approved by the Office of Institutional Advancement.
  • If a member of the Office of Institutional Advancement cannot be present at the event, all funds should be collected and recorded (i.e., name, address, CSU affiliation, gift amount) at the time of the donation and given to the Office of Institutional Advancement the day after the event to process and record.

Proposals submitted under the auspices of the University (which will subsequently be administered by the University's Finance Office) do not need to be reviewed by the CSUDF.

For more details, questions, or concerns, please contact the Office of Institutional Advancement to learn more about our Fundraising Policy on extension 3800.

NOTE: Coppin is one of 11 institutions comprising the University System of Maryland. Coppin is governed by the USM Board of Regents and the Maryland Higher Education Commission. CSUDF is an affiliated foundation with the University System of Maryland and the USM Foundation.
